Unknown Musicians

Slowly my music taste is veering away from the popular music, I care less and less about who is new to the industry and what new songs everyone’s releasing, I think it’s weird because my taste in music has generally been whatever’s in the charts and whatever’s big. I guess this shows a sign of maturing in a way because I’m not being lured in by what everyone else seems to be praising I’m being more individual. I can understand why you would like pop music because it’s romantic or it’s good dance music or something like that. Music has become a huge part of my life because it can make me feel so many different emotions! There are some popular artists I love like Ed Sheeran and Coldplay but I’ve found a whole new world and I just love it!

When people ask: ‘What sort of music do you like?’ My standard reply used to be ‘Oh, you know, Katy Perry, Taio Cruz, the usual.Pop music. ‘ But over the past year I’ve been finding genres of music which I feel comfortable in ‘So what type of music do you like?’ My reply these days ends up being ‘Indie, acoustic, yeah bands like The Wombats and Mumford & Sons’.

Indie is so upbeat and energetic (obviously it depends on the song but mostly) and it mixes electronic with rock to make a very mind blowing combo. The Wombats are my most famous indie band. 2 Door Cinema Club and stuff are great too.

Acoustic is more stripped back and that’s why I like it, even when I was into pop music I still used to love the acoustic versions. And I love it at festivals where you just get a young girl or guy sitting or standing on the stage alone with a guitar singing. Mumford & Sons do more sort of folky stuff but I like it all the same, guitars, accordions and stuff.

And now also I’ve begun to try and find all these amazing singers and bands who can sing as well live as they can in their songs. The ones who nobody knows about but me and there have been some amazing places for me to find all of these unknown artists. The two places I used were Spotify and YouTube. There is a feature on Spotify where you can insert the name of a singer or band and it’ll generate similar music so I found tons from there. On YouTube you get all those related videos and with all that original music being posted by unsigned artists onto the Internet it’s amazing!

On YouTube I have this girl Drew Tabor (drewby1xo) who does covers of pop music but don’t be put off because they are one thousand times better than the originals , they are so relaxed. She takes away the strong beat from pop songs gets an acoustic guitar and slows it down a fraction and they are awesome, I have to watch them twice before they fully settle in!

While on YouTube I got a friend request from a channel called The Runaway State and I looked at it just before I ignored it and this guy , George is one of those great people who writes amazing songs, plays amazing guitar and drums and can sing so well it could break your heart.

On Spotify Finder I typed in the Runaway State and it came up with tons of content similar to his and one that kept occurring was this singer Mindy Gledhill, I fell in love with her stuff! It can relax you and soothe you. I am actually currently waiting on her album Anchor to come from America which causes me to run hopefully to the post and then return disappointed but I will keep you posted on that!

They were one of the most viewed with their weird and funny cover of the angry bird theme tune and they seemed very attractive , Pomplamoose which is Grapefruit in French. I dug a bit more into them , they originally just did strange but compelling covers of stuff but eventually began to write their own songs which are just as weird but just as addictive as the others, weird song titles include ‘Bust Your Kneecaps’ , ‘Monster Mask’ and ‘River Shiver’ I don’t think it’s just the music , it’s also the video and how it’s presented. It’s all very jazzy but not like saxophone jazzy, it’s fast and jazzy.

What sort of music do you like? Some of my friends like rock, others dance and others pop everything’s a fair mixture in the world

Forever Yours

Due to the X Factor moving the winners single release date and the figures well, going down HUGELY . The christmas number 1 is possibly open to anyone again. And  this year there is one special song I want you to consider downloading a charity single. It’s called ‘Forever Yours’ and it’s by famous youtuber Alex Day.

It’s only 79p and a large percentage will be going to world vision. Alex claims that he only want’s people to download it if they like the song.

Personally I really like the song and the lyrics and I will be downloading it on the 23th of December to help get it to number one!! I want to make you aware of this, I’m not telling you to go and download it, that’s up to you!! From Susie

Loving iPods

Life before the iPod, people ran about with a stack of CDs age a chunky CD player that was about as heavy as a brick.

These days millions of us have an iPod whether it be a classic , shuffle , nano or touch. Now we walk around with slim , sleek, small objects. These days it’s not just about carrying the music in our pockets it’s about carrying the pictures, videos, games, contacts and carrying the time with us too.

Because our iPods are so small lots of us take  them everywhere with us , to work , to school , on a bus , on a train , to Barbados . It’s just so handy !

I am in awe of the ipod. I sit here listening to Coldplay on my speaker, the music comes from my blue ipod nano. It has a meer 382 songs on it and 220 photos, in ipod terms that’s nothing. My friend has so many songs , when she got her iPhone 4 it took hours to sync it.
But my ‘few’ songs would take hours to listen to all of it.

In summary I just want to thank the late Steve Jobs who made it possible for all of us to have our iPods .

Harry Potter Hype (7 and final)

The strange thing about the last book was that I’d seen the film so recently I could pick out bits of the book which were different. For example in the book Snape is killed in the shrieking shack, in the film he dies in a boating pond. When Voldemort dies in the book, they keep his body in a chamber ready to be buried but in the film he just flakes into nothingness .

The last book rounds off the series perfectly, it goes out with a bang. The first half is probably the worst  part of the books , it’s so depressing and boring, all failures and no successes . They aren’t doing much and the locket is making them grumpy and they aren’t anywhere near horcruxes and Harry is undesirable number one. It’s a very hostile scenario.

Personally the turning point is at the Malfoy manor, they manage to escape and rescue others and it’s very exciting. Something is happening. From there the path becomes clearer and they become more happy and active especially with the new excitement of the Hallows.

The scene where Harry is viewing Snape’s memories in a penisieve was a highlight for me because it’s a sad tale and you feel very sorry for him. It’s beautifully written from the moment where Snape and Lily first meet to when he comes to Dumbledore pleading for help. It exploits the true agony of love and losing one you love. As well as that it’s a shock to find that all these years Snape has put more faith in Dumbledore than in Voldemort.

The part in KIng’s Cross station was a ver peaceful scene all the dread you feel about Voldemort and death eaters and the innocent dead just disappears. It is an infomative part in the book because we learn more about Voldemort’s mistakes and Dumbledore’s regrets and that is interesting.

‘Just because this is all in your head does that mean it’s not real?’

Say’s Dumbledore and it’s an inspiring quote for me because it’s a question that we should ask our selves every so often.

The part  19 years later right at the end of the scene is a magical scene. It shows the now peaceful life of the Potter’s and the Weasley’s and how they see their children, the next generation off Hogwarts , school of witchcraft and wizardry. In conclusion Harry Potter is a rightfully successful book. It is thrilling, sad, mysterious, it is everything good about literacy.

Amy Winehouse

and her No1 album after death.

She had a hugely a troubled  career yet a hugely successful one too.Amy Winehouse was a talented musician and is it any wonder her second album Back To Black has hit no 1? Her album back to black has hits such as ‘Love is a losing Game’, ‘Back to Black’ and hugely successful ‘rehab’.And as an update for all of you who have been too busy to notice Amy died in her flat in Camden on the 23rd of July 2011,whilst we all know she had drug problems her family claim it was related to her drinking problems. Except it wasn’t excessive drink they claim that killed her, they claim it was drinking withdrawal which caused the death, doctors advised her to cut back on it gradually but Amy cut back completely which caused a shock to her system.

Back to Black expresses everything that Amy feels not just about her break up with her boyfriend. Looking at it you can translate the song titles into  a different language. Rehab,a place Amy visited a lot. Addicted, like Amy was with her drugs. Back to black, how she felt about her addiction to drugs.Maybe it’s just me but is this a two-sided story?

My favourite Amy Winehouse song is not a well-known one it is called ‘What it is’ and it was on her album ‘Stronger than me’ in 2003. The song is rich and warm and suits Amy’s voice perfectly. It feels like something you would listen to in a foreign country by the river.

Anyway she’s hit No1 with her most successful album and after all who ever said publicity was a bad thing? So what’s the physiological reason for the buyers to buy the album? I personally felt the need to buy rehab after she died but why? Why,the album will probably be around for ever so why? I think I was just thinking about her music more, it was splashed all over the G2 (Guardian Supplement) not to mention other magazines and newspapers. I looked at her on the web for the latest news (YouTube went berserk) and I even played all of my Amy songs in a solemn tribute.

Tons of celebs have spoken about Amy saying really peaceful nice things;

“We have lost a beautiful and talented woman to this disease… All we can do is adapt the way we view this condition, not as a crime or a romantic affectation but as a disease that will kill. We need to review the way society treats addicts, not as criminals but as sick people in need of care.” Russel Brand

: “i cant even breath right my now im crying so hard i just lost 1 of my best friends. i love you forever Amy & will never forget the real you!”Kelly Osbourne

“I just heard the news that Amy Winehouse passed away. What a true talent. I pray she’s in a better place & at peace.”Kim Kardashian

“Amy Winehouse.. So sad. Unfortunately the world lost an incredibly talented woman to such a powerful disease… addiction. #RIP” Demi Lavato

Lady Gaga also spoke up about Amy and you can check an article out here

I hope that Amy Winehouse is in a good place right now and that her album success at the moment will over shadow her troubled social life. REST IN PEACE AMY
